Holiday at the Beach Part 2

Seal Rock pano of 3 images stitched together. Not the best but not bad.

Found this little guy washed up on the beach this morning. Looks like he had a tough life. Hope he made it home ok.

Holiday at the Beach Part 1

I know I cheated with the date, but I did take these 8/30 and had no access to a connection.

Smoke, Clouds & Sky

A show in the sky this afternoon that caught the attention of my 3 year old, William. The clouds, sky and smoke made for interesting shadows and colors.

Night of the Living Mantis

I love the Praying Mantis. When one turns its head to look at you it seems intelligent and just a little freaky. (I don't notice any other bugs specifically looking at me.) If I have a favorite bug, this is it. Also, good thing it is small. Were we the same size........gulp!

Sunset Photo Day

On my way home from getting a camera for William as a Christmas Present. (Perhaps you will follow Williams photo a day blog next year!) I thought te shadows of the hills interesting in this first shot.

This is a nice barn in the back of a field but look at the trees. Fall *is* here!

Meet Leo Pard

A figurine I received from the main animator for the movie Shrek. He is a leopard pronounced Leo Pard because someone was looking at the word leopard and mis-pronounced it, giving him the idea for a leopard with attitude. Leo Pard may show up in a movie one day.

How is this real? It is created from a 3D computer model then printed with a 3D printer. Very cool technology. I use this technology as a visualization and teaching tool at school.

Another walk in Stayton

I have decided to start an additional photo blog for black & white photos only. Please visit and tell me what you think! http://bwpc.wordpress.com/ There is a great photo of William to start it off with.

Went looking for a picture to take with Kelly and this is what I came away with. Visit Kelly's blog to see how he did!

Always wanted to get a photo of the Longhorns in Stayton. Now I have.

A visit to the cemetery provides these images.

Creeks have water again

I don't know which creek this but it is by Camp Morrison Drive, a few miles up the road behind Hanna Bridge. Considered making them B&W because the water is so dirty. Bue they are presented as I saw them. I expect I will be back because I think I saw another little fall on the way out. :-)

Change in the Weather

Clear and 100F yesterday and now this and a little rain. Lightning to come too, or so they say.

On a side note, click on the image. If it overlays a larger image, I am excited! If it brings up a dialog, I am sorry. :-( If the dialog comes up, dismiss it and try again. If still no image overlay, refresh and try all the above again. It works in IE7 and Firefox 3.x just fine and Opera 9.x you may have to scroll up or down. I have not tried any other browser. For fun, go back to the fire posting and click on the first small image then use your arrow keys (right for next, left to go back) or mouse while hovering over the image and click. (Well, I do admit to having an odd sense of fun.......)

Times were better once.......

The shop where a dump truck normally lives. It has seen better times. This is how I feel when I look at this place.

Blocked by Fire

Billowing smoke pours off of a semi truck carrying a load of straw that had caught fire from other fires along the freeway caused by someone else. This guy just got lucky.

A bale of hay that burnt through a strap causing the load to fall here where the trucker stopped.

We were stopped with many others with fires burning all around us. There were many fire fighters from 5 towns so we were in no danger.

The semi-truck is on on fire here, an early photo on the left. The center shot is later when there is not much remaining of the truck except an exhaust stack.

Jefferson firefighters Smith & Powell shown on the hill and taking a deserved break from the fire. They quickly zoomed off shortly after to help in another area.

While the area was heavily engulfed here, no real damage other than to some trees.

Not like we were covered with them, but there were *many* grass hoppers trying to escape the flames. When we were told we could leave, you can see the exodus of cars heading around the fire area.
