Harsh Reality

Not always can we simply post pretty pictures. Sometimes something in stark contrast catches my eye, and here it is. It is not a bad thing. I tell William that when something dies it is food for something else, as is the case here. Death renews life. A seagull is a pretty bird and amazingly graceful. Many simply see them as scavengers, rats of the sky. I'd like to see them for what they are.

This is a common sight here in Gloucester. Gulls bet battered by storms, get tangled in old fishing lines, young ones get hit by cars and sometimes just get old.

A very sensible lesson for William.
I started collecting bird skulls and skeletons when I was about ten. Still have a Guillemot skeleton I reassembled in 1952.
Welcome to the Mono Weekend.

This is a very nice photograph even if the subject matter is sad. The monochrome seems very appropriate.

Poor bird, but it happens in time to all of us. Black and white is an excellent choice for this photo.

Excellent image. You would appreciate Jon Goodman's famous image of the hawk stretched out on the ground.
