Majestic Falls Ice Field

It has been cold here for a week, nights plunging to 10F or so and never above freezing. I suspect this location on McDowell Creek never even saw the sun. An amazing sight for sure, the creek totally frozen over with inches of ice. I met a couple from just up the road who commented that in 20 years of visiting Majestic Falls they have never seen it ice over. Likely, once in a lifetime. This image is 27 images stitched together making a single 81mpix image.

Here is what Majestic Falls normally looks like, from June of 08....

(More McDowell ice photos in the next couple days..... Now that the chaos of finals week at school is over!)

Amazing capture. Is that a bird frozen in the middle? I googled to see what it would look like if it was flowing. Is this it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dan_photoman/1317465456/

Amazing how a rush stream and waterfall can freeze over like this.

Amazing. My friend in Japan photographed a frozen water fall there a year ago. That was also quite a stunning sight.

Hi Perry,

How did you design that favicon - the small logo - into your blog?

Thanks and Regards
