Barn Roof

I had to wait for the sun to show up on this one, but it was worth the wait. The roof really shines through. :-)

Biker Revisited

I needed a "people" image for my camera club competition this week and thought this would be good. I also needed a monochrome version, so converted it. The front of the bike was dark, so I duplicated the layer and changed its mode to lighten and masked off the background and the rider. I didn't want to lighten them. Then I thought, something special would be cool, so I added the background texture. It really made the image "pop", almost 3D like when I compared different versions in Photoshop. A little more dodging & burning and I have an image that I really like.

*******
UPDATE: I took a first place with the image at the camera club tonight! Now it goes to the regional competition!

Riding the Rails

When we were out playing around the RR tracks, I put William up to this one. I like it. Love the fisheye lens. (Have I mentioned that before?)

Busy!

Railroad repair equipment: Lots of actuators, motors, levers and wheels to do a bunch of things to make the train track better. This is an awfully busy piece of machinery, done in HDR, all in fun.

Aircraft: C-130

I thought this airplane would make an interesting composition of the Portland Airport today because of the propellers. Little did I know I was going to get a bonus! These propellers spin at about 1050RPM and you can see the vapor trails from the spinning tips, about 2-1/2 to 3 revolutions worth. Seems the prop trails only stay visible for about 1/8th of a second so hard to see from the ground. These were shot at 1/3000th and 1/6000th of a second so we got to see a good look at them. The prop trails really show up in the last image.

Lincoln City Sunset, again

Again with the sunset, I know! But I loved all the images from this evening a couple weeks ago that I cannot resist. Having had my fisheye lens for nearly a month now, it is my #1 lens. I just love it and the perspective it gives, like this sunset image. Everyone should run out and get one! :-)

Pink

I cross this river every day and every day I look for an image that "pops". Most days it is average. I mean great to be there and take in the water and such, but usually difficult to get an image with any impact. Part of my problem may have been not having the tools to "see" with, as this was shot at 10mm. I think this day has paid off. I love the colors of the sky, rising sun on the frozen fog and the white of frost on all the tree twigs. It was a great morning.

Foggy Sunrise

I really liked this tree, shadowed by fog, sheltering the sun.

Frosty Fog

Shot on a recent morning, about 25F and cold for here. A little different perspective on this lake, as seen at 10mm.

Strolling on the Beach

The marching birds from a few days ago set the stage for me to photograph this couple walking on the beach a little way off. I took a few images of them standing and liked this best. I may post a similar but monochrome version some time in the future.

Edited in Photoshop CS5, cropped, levels adjusted, saturation boosted and added a warming color layer with the lower center that is masked out to prevent color change on the beach where they stand. I did this intentionally to give the appearance of a glow reflection behind them. Shot with Pentax K-7 using a Sigma 70-200/2.8, shot at f4 & 1/1000.

Sunset, Lincoln City

There was a rare (for me) sunset while visiting the beach Saturday that I got to go chasing. I found a very cool overlook on a hidden corner of the back streets in Lincoln City, Oregon. I took a TON of shots with different trees as framing and using my fisheye lens. These both are mostly straight out of the camera.....I had to straighten them......but no other adjustments. I love them! (And I was surprised how well a fisyehe worked for this. First landscape with it. A couple other people there were missing out using a long zoom.)

Sandpipers Marching

I followed these guys for a while this New Year morning. Very interesting to see their feeding patterns, back and forth, following each wave for what the ocean brings.
